Rhasidat Adeleke Record-breaking Performance
Rhasidat Adeleke has made history at the National Track and Field Championships in Santry, according to the Irish Independent. Her performance is described as a display of pure poise, peerless speed, and unstoppable power.
New Irish Sprint Record Holder
At just 21 years old, Rhasidat Adeleke claimed the Irish 100m record, clocking an impressive 11.13 (+0.7m/s). This achievement marks her as Ireland’s fastest woman, surpassing her chief rival Sarah Lavin of Emerald AC, who finished with a time of 11.37.
Complete Domination
Adeleke’s time shattered the previous record of 11.27, set by Lavin in Switzerland last year. With this accomplishment, the Tallaght sprinter now holds every Irish sprint record from 60m to 400m, both indoors and outdoors.
Road to Paris Olympics
This record-breaking race was Adeleke’s final competition on Irish soil before heading to the Paris Olympics. She is set to return to Texas soon for further preparations, followed by competitions on the European circuit leading up to the Games.
Spectator Turnout and Recent Success
The Nationals saw its largest crowd in recent memory, with ticket sales doubling compared to the previous year. This surge in attendance follows the success of the Irish team at the European Championships in Rome, where Adeleke contributed with two relay medals and an individual silver in the 400m.
Semi-final Performance
Earlier in the day, Adeleke comfortably won her semi-final with a time of 11.54, while Lavin also secured her place in the final with a time of 11.51.
