This is another significant partnership for the WNBA. The excitement surrounding women’s sports is outstanding, and brands, companies and others are noticing the growth. On Thursday, the WNBA announced a multi-year partnership with Reebok. Global sportswear will be the league’s footwear supplier. Having stars like Angel Reese and Lexie Brown as Reebok athletes helps the league and the sportswear brand at all levels.
Here is what WNBA Chief Growth Officer Colie Edison had to say about the significance of the partnership with Reebok:
“The WNBA continues to grow with iconic brands, and we look forward to Reebok joining us in driving women’s basketball to new heights and inspiring the next generation,” said WNBA Chief Growth Officer Colie Edison. “As we continue to capitalize on increased brand awareness, our work with Reebok is another step in bringing more fans to the game.”
What the Reebok Partnership Means for the WNBA
In 2021, Reebok named NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson to executive leadership roles for the Basketball division at Reebok. O’Neal and Reese have a close-knit relationship, which is one of the reasons Reese had the opportunity to sign with Reebok. Having the Chicago Sky star as part of the brand helps elevate women’s basketball even more. Her social media presence will entice fans to engage more and bring new eyes to the league. Brown has been part of the brand for a few years now. The Reebok partnership will attract more fans to watch, attend and support the league.
Throughout the years, O’Neal has supported women’s basketball, especially at the collegiate level as of late, thanks to Reese. Having close relationships with former and current WNBA players helps O’Neal understand the players and the league.
Here is what O’Neal had to say about the partnership:
“It’s an exciting time for Reebok, the WNBA, and the game of basketball overall,” said Shaquille O’Neal, President of Reebok Basketball. “Reebok has always been committed to supporting the sport’s growth, and now, with a strong plan, the right resources, and the welcoming arms of the WNBA, we’re ready to dive in headfirst with everything from product to players and more.”
Angel Reese’s Reebok Collection
Reebok by Angel launched this summer with fashion pieces and the unveiling of Reebok’s new performance basketball shoe, “Engine A.” It doesn’t stop there for Reese; she signed a multi-year partnership extension with Reebok in October. Reese also confirmed a signature sneaker release for 2026, making her the second WNBA player with a signature shoe with Reebok.
This is what Reese had to say about the new partnership:
“Reebok has been such an amazing partner and advocate for women in sport,” said Angel Reese. “As strong female athletes, we can use our platform to set an example for young players coming up in the sport. I’m happy to see the WNBA and Reebok supporting one another because I know that together we’re so much stronger and our reach is so much further.”
This is not the first time we have heard of a partnership between Reebok and women’s basketball. The brand partnered with the nation’s best collegiate basketball teams in the early and late 1990s. One that stands out is the 1997 partnership between the UConn Huskies and Hall of Famer Rebecca Lobo, who had her signature shoe with Reebok. This partnership impacted women’s sports then and now.
