Gamecock star Ashlyn Watkins tore her ACL on January 5 while playing against Mississippi State. She will miss the rest of the season and undergo surgery and therapy.
The 6’3 junior has been a key player for the Gamecocks so far this season. She came off the bench for all 14 games she played, averaging 16 minutes per game. She averaged 7.2 points, was the second-leading rebounder with 6.1 rebounds and led the team in blocks at 26 blocks.
Ashlyn had a dunk earlier in the season in a game against the ninth-ranked TCU, where the Gamecocks won 85-52. This was her third dunk in college basketball.
Tough Season Start
Ashlyn had a tough season to start as she faced criminal charges. She missed the visit to The White House and the season-opening game against Michigan on November 4. However, the charges were dropped on November 1, and her team suspension was lifted. She officially joined the team for practice on November 6.
South Carolina Gamecocks Season
The team is currently 14 -1, with fifth-ranked UCLA defeating them in an away game, 77-62. This ended the team’s unbeaten run, which stretched from the 2023-2024 season. The team is currently on top of the SEC with 2-0 after winning both conference games against Missouri and Mississippi. The Gamecocks’ next two games are home games and will host Texas A&M and Texas.
