Brittney Sykes, who has played for the Washington Mystics for the past two seasons, contributed significantly to the team. She participated in all 40 games during the 2023 season. In 2023, Sykes ranked fourth for the Most Improved Player award and third for the Defensive Player of the Year. That season, she averaged 15.9 points per game. On a team that finished 19-21 under head coach Eric Thibault, Sykes was their primary player on both ends of the court. Unfortunately, she sustained a left high ankle sprain in the second game of the season on May 17. A month later, she returned to play against the Atlanta Dream, but had to leave the game due to a left foot sprain.
Sykes’s 2024 injuries limited her to 18 games, where she averaged 12.2 points per game. Sykes can be a threat on both ends of the floor when healthy. She is recognized as a defensive powerhouse and is a four-time All-Defensive Team member. Sykes is one of the most underrated players in the WNBA and Unrivaled.
Sykes — Unrivaled
Sykes has been an underrated player in Unrivaled, especially with teammates like Chelsea Gray and Angel Reese. Gray and Reese have overshadowed the rest of the team. However, Sykes has been quietly performing all season long. Since the season began, she has had three poor shooting games. On January 25 against the Mist, Sykes shot 1-for-5 from the field and finished with two points. On February 7 against the Mist, she went 0-for-6 from the field and ended with two points. In her latest game on March 3 against the Laces, Brittney shot 2-for-10 from the field and ended up with four points. Otherwise, she has averaged under 20 points per game and has excelled on the boards.
The Rose have improved since the beginning of the season; they are in second place in the standings and have clinched a playoff spot.
