This power pair dominates the game with their combined skills Chicago Sky can transform the game
Kamilla Cardoso, the Brazilian number three (3) pick from the University of South Carolina, and Angel Reese, a Baltimore native who was picked seventh out of Louisiana State University (LSU), were selected by the Chicago Sky — creating a formidable duo.
“I’m just so excited I get to play with Kamilla,” Reese said shortly after being picked. “I’ve been playing against her since high school.”
Similarly, Cardoso expressed excitement about playing with Reese — who, like Cardoso, brings height and strength to the frontcourt. Cardoso is 6 ft 7 in and Reese is 6 ft 3 in! “Two great players together, nobody’s going to get no rebounds on us.” Cardoso jokingly stated during a press conference after the draft.
Cardoso averaged 3.7 ORB (Offensive Rebounds) and 6 DRB (Defensive Rebounds) for a total of 9.7 on the glass in her final year with Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Women’s Team. Reese averaged 5.5 ORB (Offensive Rebounds) and 7.8 DRB (Defensive Rebounds) for an insane total of 13.3 cleaning the glass in her final season in the Bayou! With these numbers, you can see why this statement of rebounds between the two opponents has legitimate merit. Both played in arguably the most physical collegiate conference known as the SEC (Southeastern Conference).
Mark your calendars
The WNBA season tips off on May 14. The Chicago Sky’s first matchup is against the Dallas Wings on May 15.
After being high school foes and collegiate conference opponents, these ladies will be professional teammates and “Twin Pillars” in the movement of “Winning Their Way” and for women’s sports.
