Women’s basketball is shining bright currently with the young talent who were drafted. This does not mean that the veteran players are going to slow down because the young talent has increased women’s basketball popularity.

WNBA star, Diana Taurasi has been getting backlash from fans regarding her comment on Caitlin Clark’s future transition to the WNBA. The comment was made before Iowa’s loss to the Gamecocks in the national championship for college basketball. Taurasi cleared up her mix of words in a recent interview and explained that she was not trying to downplay Clark’s skills. Keeping her response short and simple, she states, “Reality is coming.”

Rookies and veterans

Before the NCAA national championship, Taurasi continues to explain, “I don’t think I said anything that wasn’t factually correct. It is kind of like when you go from kindergarten to first grade, it is a learning adjustment, from high school to college there is a learning adjustment. Like anything, greatness is going to translate and she’s proven that at every level.  I don’t see it being any different in the WNBA.” (Twitter: @iam_DanaScott) Not degrading their talent, Taurasi explained the transition to being a rookie in the league could be tricky for most players, because they are playing against experienced veterans. Rookies have learning curves when entering the league it happens in both leagues. Training camp is hard and some players do not transition well from college to the pro level. In some cases, it results in them being cut from the team. You have to be able to transition to the professional league and that’s where Clark’s fans didn’t sit well with Taurasi’s comments.
