Historic Win

President Biden celebrated the South Carolina Women’s College Basketball Champions at a White House Ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate their historic 2024 NCAA championship victory. 

The Gamecocks, under the leadership of Coach Dawn Staley, completed an undefeated season, marking their third national title since 2017. 

South Carolina’s success was even more impressive given the team’s ability to thrive despite losing all five starters from the previous season. South Carolina’s success came after a challenging offseason where Coach Staley had to rebuild her team, losing all five starters from the previous year. 

Overcoming Setbacks

Despite these setbacks, the Gamecocks demonstrated resilience and dominance throughout the season. This achievement placed South Carolina among the elite teams in NCAA history, becoming the 10th women’s team to go unbeaten.​

Throughout their historic season, the Gamecocks led the nation in scoring defense, victory margin, and blocked shots.

Key Players Dominance 

Several key players were instrumental in the South Carolina Gamecocks’ 2024 NCAA women’s basketball championship victory:

Kamilla Cardoso – The 6’7″ center was a dominant force all season. Her shot-blocking and rebounding abilities anchored South Carolina’s defense, while her scoring presence in the post was crucial to the team’s success.

Raven Johnson – As the team’s starting point guard, Johnson played a critical role in controlling the tempo of the game. Her playmaking skills and defensive tenacity helped set the tone for the team.
