JuJu Breaking Records
There is no doubt about JuJu Watkins’ talent and athletic ability. USC Women’s basketball star Watkins has surpassed Caitlin Clark’s record for the most points scored in their first two seasons of college. Clark scored 1,662 points in her first two seasons, while Watkins now has 1,684. This places Watkins just behind Kelsey Mitchell for the most points scored by any player in their first two seasons, with Mitchell holding the record at 1,762 points. Watkins is on track to possibly earn the all-time college scoring record, which is currently held by Clark. Caitlin broke the mark in her historic senior season in 2023-24, with 3,951.
The Face of Women’s College Basketball
Watkins has become the face of women’s college basketball since Clark, Angel Reese, and other talented players from last season have been drafted in the WNBA. “The attention wasn’t always there, so to just see the eyes on it and people respecting the sport more, and young girls getting into the sport more, it’s a dream come true,” Watkins said. Watkins also spoke about the new spectators of the sport because of players like Clark. “So many new fans being in the sport sometimes can be, not necessarily challenging, but can just kind of give you a headache a bit. Not a lot of people know what they’re talking about sometimes. But it’s great for the sport. The fact that people are watching is enough in itself,” Watkins said when previously asked by Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview about what challenges come with the sport’s new attention.
Proud of Progress
Watkins has expressed her hopes for women’s basketball and sports to keep expanding and attracting new fans. Players like Watkins keep fans and spectators on the edge of their seats, tuning into women’s basketball.
