Simone Biles Nominated in the Sportswoman of the Year Award
American gymnast Simone Biles continues to be a prominent face of the sport not only in the USA but also on a global scale. She delivered an outstanding performance in 2024, earning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics and a silver in the Floor Exercise category. Before the Olympics, she secured nine gold medals at the US Gymnastics Championships. In 2024, she also executed her famous Biles II and Cheng in the finals, becoming the second gymnast to win two medals in the vault category at the Olympics.
She is no stranger to the prestigious award, having won the Sportswoman of the Year title three times—in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Additionally, she earned the Comeback of the Year award in 2024 after her return from a break she took in 2023 to focus on her mental health. This year, she is nominated in the same category alongside other notable athletes, including Aitana Bonmati, a Spanish soccer player with Barcelona, who also has a strong history with these awards, having won this title the previous year and being recognized as Player of the Year in the UEFA Women’s Nations League Finals in 2024. Competing in this category are also track and field athletes Faith Kipyegon (Kenyan middle and long-distance runner), Aryna Sabalenka (Belarusian professional tennis player), Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (American track athlete), and Sifan Hassan (Dutch middle and long-distance runner).
