Ice Legends Tribute
In response to the tragic midair collision near Ronald Reagan International Airport on January 29, 2025, which claimed the lives of 67 individuals—including 28 members of the figure skating community, Nancy Kerrigan is set to participate in a benefit event to honor the victims. The “Legacy on Ice” tribute, scheduled for Sunday in Washington, D.C., aims to support the families affected by this devastating incident. The live tribute will benefit the families of the victims, as well as first responders.
Olympic Champion Legends
The event will feature a remarkable assembly of figure skating talent, including Olympic hopefuls, world champions, and past champions. Peggy Fleming, Nathan Chen, Isabeau Levito, Madison Chock, Evan Bates, Johnny Weir, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Scott Hamilton are notable participants alongside Kerrigan.
Brian Boitano, the 1988 Olympic champion, will emcee the event. The show will be broadcast live on Peacock and Monumental Sports Network, with an encore presentation on NBC.
Unifying U.S. Figure Skating Community
The skating community has rallied swiftly to organize this tribute, demonstrating solidarity and unwavering support. U.S. Figure Skating interim CEO Sam Auxier noted, “Pulling together a national-level event of this magnitude in less than a month is a true testament to the unwavering support within the figure skating community.”
Kerrigan’s Emotional Journey
Kerrigan, deeply affected by the loss, especially of members from her home club, The Skating Club of Boston, expressed her grief and emphasized the importance of community support during this challenging time.
