The gap is widening between the KC Current, who sit at the top of the table, and the other teams as it maintains a winning streak and only has two losses since the start of the season. The KC Current has 30 points, followed by Orlando Pride, the 2024 Champions, with 25 points.

KC Current  4 – 2 Racing Louisville

KC Current attained its 10th win of the season in a home game, beating the guests 4-2. It was an early lead that allowed the team to build on it despite Racing Louisville’s two goals later in the game. KC Current mounted a lot of pressure on Louisville in the opening minutes of the game, and this yielded an own goal from a long strike by Current’s Michelle Cooper.

For several games, the KC Current has scored in the first minutes of the game. Currently, out of the season’s best 20 goals it has scored in the first half, 12 goals have been scored in the first 25 minutes of the game. In less than 12 minutes, Cooper netted a second goal for the Current. Her goal was immediately followed by Bia Zaneratto’s strike, which found the back of the net in the 19th minute. They held onto this lead going into halftime.

When the teams returned after the first half, Racing Louisville was determined to continue its winning streak and improve its standing in the league. They applied pressure and notably demonstrated better momentum than in the first half, finally scoring twice in the 62nd and 88th minutes through Janine Sonis and Uchenna Kanu, respectively. However, the game wasn’t over, as Temwa Chawinga made a great run to the box and scored during the last five added minutes. This marked her eighth goal of the season, tying her with Barbra Banda of Orlando Pride, who both trail the leading scorer, Esther González, by one goal with nine goals.

Utah Royals

The Utah Royals continued to struggle this week, suffering another loss to Gotham FC. The team sits at the bottom of the table with only one win and five points out of the 12 games played. This has been a tough season for the team, whose performance continues to decline following the COVID-19 pandemic. They finished in 11th place last season and currently sit in 14th place as the first half of the regular season comes to an end.
