Racing Louisville 1-0 Chicago Stars

Chicago Stars looked like a better team coming into the game and their team statistics were impressive, but they could not stop Emma Sears from scoring in the 27th minute. The Chicago Stars had an impressive attempt at scoring within the first 15 minutes of the game. However, the first attempt was saved by Katie Lund, Louisville’s goalkeeper and the second shot hit the crossbar to bounce off to the stands. In the 27th minute, Sears shot from outside the box and all attempts to save the ball were futile. Chicago Stars went into the half in debt and returned hopeful to defend their home grounds.

The Racing Louisville had an opportunity to stretch their lead, but Alyssa Naeher saved the day for the Chicago Stars. On the other hand, the Chicago Stars attacked continuously to get out of the ditch they had dug themselves into, but they still failed to find the back of the net.

Orlando Pride 2-1 San Diego Wave

The Orlando Pride isn’t backing down anytime soon, registering its third win in three games played. The team sits at the top of the NWSL table with nine points. It is tied to the same points as KC Current but has a goal difference, placing it at the top. In the game over the weekend, it dominated in a home game over the San Diego Wave. The first half ended scoreless for the higher teams, with the ball mainly in play in the midfield and fewer shots. Both teams returned eager to end the 0-0 run. Within the first two minutes, Barbra Banda had stolen away from the defense. In a one-on-one situation, the San Diego keeper, Kailen Sheridan, saved the ball, which led to a corner kick. Less than a minute later, Ally Watt shot from beyond the penalty box arc.

Once again, Sheridan leaped high to add another save to her statistics sheet. It led to another corner kick and this time, Haley McCutcheon converted the corner into a goal. Chiamaka Okwuchukwu scored in the 60th minute, heading past the Orlando Pride Goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse. In the 72nd minute, Banda was tackled in the penalty box to earn a penalty for the Pride. Marta successfully had the San Diego goalkeeper diving in the opposite direction, but the left post denied the goal, where it bounced off. This was Marta’s second missed penalty in the regular season playing in the NWSL. Fortunately for the Pride, the penalty was recalled, and after reviewing the penalty, both the goalkeeper and San Diego players declared it an encroachment. Marta was again placed in the penalty position and converted it to give the Pride a 2-1 win.
