A Bold New Venue Where Female Athletes Take Center Stage, Challenging the Status Quo in Sports Coverage and Community Building

It’s rare to walk into a sports bar and see female athletes on the screen. Think back to the last time you visited one—did you notice women’s sports being televised? If you did, it was probably only on a single TV. Recently, Rose Valente has made it her mission to change that.

Rose Valente Founder of The Ladies League Bar

Valente is the founder and CEO of the first and only women’s sports bar on Oxford Street in Sydney. Her vision began in 2017 as an online sports publication, which evolved into The Ladies League (TLL). Now, in 2024, that online community has transformed into a physical space where fans can experience the competitive spirit of female athletes.

The Ladies League Bar will play women’s sports from opening til close. A place to watch WSL, A-League Women, Matildas, AFLW, State of Origin Women, WNBL and all the rest. In a recent interview with the Guardian, Valente remarked, “Women are coming in hard with sport and women want to watch it.” This sports bar is dedicated not only to increasing visibility and viewership for women’s sports but also to resonating with female spectators. There’s a powerful sense of women supporting women, and as this becomes a new norm, women’s sports are bound to rise.

The Influence of The Ladies League Bar

This bar is more than just a venue; it’s a dedicated space where women’s sports take center stage, giving fans a place to gather and enjoy games that are often overlooked in mainstream settings. In the same interview, Valente expressed the hardship many go through to watch women’s sports. She shares, “You feel like you’ll be fighting to watch something – it’s just not a comfortable experience.”It’s a bold statement that challenges the status quo, promoting equality in sports coverage and creating a community around the passion for women’s athletics.

The Ladies League Bar is creating a space where women’s sports are celebrated and supported. Valente is not only changing the game but also inspiring others to rethink the way we engage with and value women’s sports.
