Championship Game Overview
The championship game at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Massachusetts, was a hot ticket once again, drawing a full house of 1,200 fans for the fourth year running.
After a quiet couple of innings, Hallie Wacaser broke the ice for Florida State with a solo homer in the third.
The score remained unchanged until Johnson’s pivotal home run in the seventh.
The Tigers managed only three hits in the entire game: one from catcher Aby Vieira and two from Johnson.
In contrast, the Seminoles racked up eight hits from eight different players, with Wacaser’s solo home run accounting for Florida State’s only run.
For the Tigers, Reese Basinger and Brooke McCubbin each tallied a strikeout. McCubbin snagged her 15th win of the season, allowing no runs and walking only one batter over 4.0 innings.
Florida State pitcher Julia Apsel recorded five strikeouts and allowed no hits over 3.0 innings, while Ashtyn Danley and Jazzy Francik each recorded two strikeouts.
Taylor Pipkins Crowned MVP
Taylor Pipkins of Clemson was named the 2025 ACC Softball Championship’s Most Valuable Player. Before the final game, the first-year student had an impressive .800 batting average (4-for-5) with five RBIs. Four of those RBIs resulted from a crucial grand slam against Virginia in the quarterfinals, propelling the Tigers into the semifinals.
Clemson has automatically qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship by winning the ACC title. The NCAA Selection Show was scheduled for Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2, with regional play beginning on Friday, May 16.
