The University of Hawaii (UH) women’s basketball team is set to make history on Saturday by debuting fan-designed uniforms in their matchup against the University of California, Irvine. The game, branded as “Beeman’s Bigger Bash,” aims to break the school’s single-game attendance record for women’s basketball while engaging fans in a unique way.
Pushing for a New Attendance Milestone
The University of Hawaii strives to surpass its previous attendance records with this event. Last year, “Beeman’s Bigger Bash” drew more than 5,000 fans, marking the highest turnout for the program in 20 years. The current all-time record, set in 1998, stands at 6,192 attendees. The program hopes to set a new benchmark for fan engagement and support by offering special promotions and unveiling exclusive uniforms.
A Historic Fan-Designed Uniform
The University of Hawaii has become the first college basketball program in the nation to host a nationwide uniform design contest, inviting fans to submit their own concepts. The competition received 125 submissions, ultimately selecting the design titled “sUHrf City” by Isaac Daggett of Colorado Springs. As part of the celebration, Daggett will be flown to Hawaii and honored on the court during the game.
Fundraising Through Exclusive Jersey Auction
In addition to the uniform reveal, the University of Hawaii will auction off the game-worn “sUHrf City” jerseys, with proceeds directly benefiting the women’s basketball team and its student-athletes. This fundraising initiative follows last year’s success when the “Hawaiian Night” jerseys raised $20,000 for the program. The auction offers fans a chance to own a piece of history while supporting the team’s future endeavors.
Game Day Promotions and Fan Engagement
The program offers several promotions to further attract fans and enhance the game-day experience. Attendees 18 and under will receive free admission, encouraging younger audiences to connect with the program. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a limited-edition Laura Beeman bobblehead commemorating the longtime head coach’s impact on the team. Additionally, “sUHrf City” T-shirts will be distributed throughout the event, ensuring fans leave with a tangible piece of the celebration.
