Less than two months ago, Whoopi Goldberg announced the All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN) launch, which is committed to women’s sports 24/7.
The sports network is already keeping up with its mission of having women’s sports on television, given the numerous rights it has obtained in this short time span. The latest addition is the FIBA 3×3 women’s series, which AWSN will have exclusive rights to for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series
The FIBA 3×3 series is the different games at National levels in competition and preparation for the 3×3 tournament. The tournament is a global stage for professional female athletes to compete in the 3×3 game. In August 2024, the competition took place in Hangzhou, China, where France won gold. The competition attracted over thirty participating women’s teams from different countries.
Prior to the Final tournament, the tournament takes place in various locations across America, Europe and Asia. It is a moment for women basketball athletes to compete against each other and qualify for the final tournament.
Record-breaking 2024 Season
The FIBA 3×3 women’s series recorded the highest online engagement the tournament has ever seen. The 2024 final game drew 50 million impressions across its digital platforms, with a notable 51% increase from the previous year. The tournament also recorded 41 million viewers throughout the season, accounting for a 64% increase from 2023.
Impact of AWSN
AWSN has signed notable rights to women’s sports with organizations like the Women’s National Basketball League (WBNL) in Australia and the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA). With the addition of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series, the network will boost the viewership of the sport. AWSN was created out of the need to have more women’s sports on television due to the increasing demand for women’s sports, and this comes at a time when there is tremendous growth in viewership of women’s sports.
