Depth and Dominance From Top to Bottom

The reigning WNBA champions are back with a powerful 12-player roster, aiming to defend their crown in 2025. With returning stars, global experience, and promising young talent, the New York Liberty are positioned for another title run.

The roster features familiar faces like Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Sabrina Ionescu—a trio that helped power last season’s championship run. Stewart, a 6-foot-4 forward in her eighth season, remains one of the league’s most dominant players. Jones returns at center, standing 6-foot-6 with eight years of experience and an unmatched inside presence. Ionescu, a 5-foot-11 guard in her fifth season, continues to be a dynamic playmaker and fan favorite.

Global Talent and Fresh Faces

The Liberty continues to showcase its global reach. Marine Johannès returns from France as a 5-foot-10 guard known for her creativity and quick release. Leonie Fiebich of Germany joins the frontcourt at 6-foot-4, while Nyara Sabally, representing both Oregon and Germany,  provides versatility at 6-foot-5. Germany is not the only European presence, as the team also includes players from the Bahamas, France and more.

New additions like Marquesha Davis and Jaylyn Sherrod, both rookies from Ole Miss and Colorado, bring fresh energy and speed to the backcourt. Davis stands at 6 feet tall, while Sherrod is listed at 5-foot-7. With just one year of WNBA experience between them, their development will be crucial in supporting the team’s veteran-heavy rotation.

Veteran Strength and Stability

The Liberty’s backcourt benefits from the leadership of Natasha Cloud, a 5-foot-10 guard with nine years of experience from St. Joseph’s. Rebekah Gardner and Kennedy Burke, both 6-foot-1 guards, provide solid defense and rotational depth. Isabelle Harrison returns to the frontcourt at 6-foot-3, bringing veteran poise in her seventh season.

Notable Roster Moves

The team announced that it has suspended Betnijah Laney-Hamilton’s contract as she recovers from left knee surgery, which means she will miss the 2025 season. Additionally, New York waived Esmery Martinez and Leaonna Odom in its final round of roster decisions ahead of the home opener on Saturday, May 17.

A Balanced Pursuit of Back-to-Back Titles

With a balanced mix of championship-tested veterans, skilled international players, and promising new talent, Liberty’s 2025 roster is prepared to compete at the highest level. New York enters the season with expectations as lofty as the talent on its roster, and the league is watching.
