WNBA Departure

Former Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter, known for her dynamic play and competitive spirit, has signed with Adelitas de Chihuahua in Mexico’s Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional Femenil (LNBPF) for the 2025 season.

This move follows a period of free agency during which Carter did not receive offers from WNBA teams despite averaging 17.5 points per game in the 2024 season.

Carter’s departure from the WNBA underscores a league increasingly built on second chances — but not everyone gets them. After the Sky declined to offer her a qualifying contract this offseason, Carter was left to seek opportunities abroad.

Speculation Around the League

Her absence has contributed to concerns about her on-court demeanor and reported locker room issues. Notably, an incident during a game against the Indiana Fever, where Carter committed a hard foul on then-rookie Caitlin Clark, drew significant attention.

WNBA fans were shocked to hear that Carter wouldn’t make a roster in the league for the 2025 season, speculating that she’s being blacklisted over rumored locker room issues.

In a statement, Adelitas de Chihuahua expressed enthusiasm about acquiring Carter, highlighting her as “one of the most explosive players on the court” and emphasizing her potential impact in the league.

Future Return to WNBA

While it is uncertain whether Carter’s contract in Mexico allows for a return to the WNBA mid-season, her focus appears to be on revitalizing her career internationally. Fans and observers will be watching closely to see how this new chapter unfolds for the talented guard.
