The Minnesota Lynx are on a Nine-Game Winning Streak

The Minnesota Lynx officially tied their starting record for the 2017 season with a perfect 9-0 start following their victory over the Dallas Wings in an away game.

Minnesota Lynx 81 – 65 Dallas Wings

The Minnesota Lynx were playing against the Wings for the third time in the season. The Lynx had a spaced-out schedule since their last game last Tuesday, before today’s matchup against the Dallas Wings. The Dallas Wings were coming off their eighth loss of the season to the Los Angeles Sparks. Crucial to the starting five, three of the Dallas players didn’t play – Paige Bueckers (Illness), Teaira McCowan (National Team Obligation), and Tyasha Harris (Left Knee).

The Lynx had an early lead, which they maintained throughout the first quarter, finishing 24-14. Dallas performed better in the second quarter, outscoring the Lynx and trailing by only three points at halftime. During the break, Arike Ogunbowale made a significant contribution to Dallas’s score, racking up 20 points to help keep the team competitive. The Lynx’s Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride combined for 30 points. The third quarter was slow, but Dallas continued to chip away at the deficit, entering the fourth quarter just one point behind. The Lynx surged in the fourth quarter, at one point going on a 14-3 run against Dallas. It was a low-scoring quarter for Dallas, who managed only nine points. The Lynx finished with a double-digit lead. 

Game Statistics

Collier had a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds and was backed up by McBride’s 21 points. Courtney Williams had eight assists. For Dallas, Maddy Siegrist registered her first career double-double. She came off the bench to score 15 points and pick up 11 rebounds. Arike finished the game with 26 points, scoring only six in the second half.

Future Meetup

The two teams will meet again on September 2 at the Lynx’s home. The Lynx will play again on Wednesday against the Seattle Storm.
