Team USA roster

With some shocking news, the 2024 USA Basketball Olympic team has been finalized for the upcoming Olympics. There is a lot of criticism and controversy regarding Caitlin Clark’s exclusion from the roster. Clark, arguably the most viewed player in the WNBA, has helped women’s sports grow drastically, especially the WNBA. Clark has opened many doors for women, and being left off the USA team has disappointed many who believed she deserved a spot on that Olympic squad. The women’s USA team has won seven consecutive gold medals since 1996. The roster comprises the top veterans, including Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, and more.

Clark and Fever Head Coach’s Response

Many feel that Clark hasn’t lived up to the hype even though the rookie has been breaking records in her rookie campaign. Her offensive showing isn’t enough to get her a spot on the roster, but that doesn’t stop Clark’s confidence. “Honestly, no disappointment. It just gives you something to work for,” said Clark on NBC News Sunday. Clark would also go on to talk with her coach during practice.

“Things she said was hey coach, they woke a monster,” Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides explained on NBC news. Fans are upset about her not making the team, even with all she has done for women’s sports viewerships. However, 12 other women are playing better than she is right now.

Clark still looks to cheer on Team USA and is determined to work hard to make the team in the next Olympics. As the Olympics approach, the debate on the exclusion of Clark will continue, but she will be cheering for the women to bring home the gold.
