Allie Quigley, a former guard for the Chicago Sky, officially announced her retirement from professional basketball on Tuesday in a story for The Players Tribune, nearly three years after her last WNBA game in September 2022.
Leaving Her Mark on the League
Quigley, a 14-year league veteran, spent the last decade of her career with her hometown team. During this time, she helped the Sky secure a WNBA championship in 2021, earned three All-Star selections, and won two WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year awards.
Quigley has a career average of 10.9 points per game and a 39.4% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. She also holds the record for the most 3-Point Contest victories, with four wins in 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022; this record still stands in the WNBA and NBA.
Courtney Vandersloot, Quigley’s wife and a Sky guard, recently surpassed Quigley as Chicago’s all-time leading scorer.
Allie Quigley’s Remarks on Retirement and Motherhood
Allie stated, “I love knowing that I can look back on my career and say it was really, really good — but it was part of the beginning of something truly great.”
Quigley explained that she initially took time off to become a mom, which took longer than expected.
Quigley and Vandersloot welcomed their first child, daughter Jana Christine, on April 8, 2025, prompting Allie to officially announce her retirement.
Quigley said, “Bringing a baby into the world is their proudest accomplishment, even more so than the Sky winning a championship.”
Amid her WNBA achievements, accolades, and success, Quigley is at peace with her retirement choice and is focusing on raising her daughter. Her contributions to the WNBA will always be recognized, and she continues to inspire girls who aspire to play in the WNBA just like her.
