A Season Setback

Mystics rookie Georgia Amoore suffers an ACL injury during the team’s practice. Amoore was the sixth pick in this year’s WNBA Draft and finished as one of three players in Division I history to post at least 2,300 points and 800 assists, along with Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark. The Mystics have not given a timeline for her return. Amoore’s ACL tear happened three days before she was set to make her WNBA debut in a preseason game against the Indiana Fever.

The Road to Recovery

“Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate,” the team wrote. ACL injury recovery can last six to nine months. Depending on the severity of the tear, this could cause Amoore to miss all five months of the WNBA season.

The former Kentucky Wildcats star has unexpected adversity to overcome at the start of her WNBA career. Social media such as X, formerly Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, flooded Amoore with love and support amid such a tragic time. The specifics of the injuries haven’t been revealed yet, so there is no confirmation if this is a season-ending injury.

An Asset to the Team

The 5-foot-6 guard transferred to the Wildcats as a graduate transfer for the 2024-25 season and helped lead Kentucky to a 23-8 record and the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2021-22. Amoore averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists in 36.7 minutes per game, appearing in all 31 games. There is still so much promise in her career in the WNBA once she recovers.

Washington wrapped up last season with a record of 14-26 and secured three of the top six selections in the WNBA draft. Amoore was picked sixth by the Mystics, alongside Sonia Citron from Notre Dame (third) and Kiki Iriafen from USC (fourth).

Although it is very tough for Amoore, the level of adversity that Amoore is facing will only make for a better comeback story and inspire millions.
