Glen Mills is well known for his role in working closely with Usain Bolt, the fastest man the World has seen. The sprinting and athletics coach recently added a female track athlete under his wing – Tobi Amusan.
Tobi’s goal is to reclaim her world title in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2025 World Championships. The former University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) athlete represents Nigeria at International track athletics in the women’s 100-meter hurdles and 4×100-meter relays.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she came first in Round 1 – Heat 1 of the 100m hurdles. She qualified for the Semifinal 1 but fell short to Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas by 5 seconds, placing her in third place. She could not proceed to the final race, which is one of the reasons she has sought the best in the field: to help her reclaim her glory in the sport.
Glen Mills trained Usain Bolt to become one of the greatest athletes this generation will ever witness, setting World Records in the 100m and 200m with a record of eight Olympic gold medals and eleven world championship titles between 2011 and 2016. Mills trained the Jamaican Olympic Athletics team for 20 years before stepping down to focus on his Racers Track Club.
Tobi Amusan
Amusan is an idol in the Nigerian Athletics community and Africa at large because of what she has accomplished in her career. While at UTEP, she won the NCAA title in 2017 and opted to go pro in 2018. Her accomplishments at the professional level have been nothing but a testament to her hard work and zeal to break records and set a standard in the sport. She claimed two gold medals at the African Championship games in Nigeria in the 100m hurdles and 4x100m relays.
In the same year, at the Commonwealth Games, she obtained bronze in the 4x100m relay and gold in the 100m hurdles. In 2019, she obtained gold in the 100m hurdles at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco. She dominated the 100m hurdles at the Diamond League for three consecutive years, scooping gold in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Tobi describes her favorite moment as the day she won gold at the World Championship in Eugene in 2022. She has a long record of proven success prior to turning pro on the African continent.
Coaching Impact
She parted ways with her former coach, Lacena Golding-Clarke, to join Mills. She believes this is the opposite of her to conquer beyond what she has shown to the world. Mills has also confirmed that he has her under custodianship, and the world should watch out for her in 2025.
