A Hidden Career

In a surprising twist, Shi Ming, a registered doctor, has made headlines not only for her medical expertise, but also for her prowess in the UFC octagon. Her parents, however, were unaware of her dual career until recently.

They believed she was only participating in traditional martial arts competitions. “For my parents, they are traditional Chinese parents, and they worry about me. Only doctor or a lawyer, I don’t have other choice,” Shi explained.

A Shocking Knockout

Ming’s journey to fame took a dramatic turn at UFC Fight Night 248 in Macau. Competing in the strawweight division, she delivered a stunning head-kick knockout against Xiaocan Feng in the third round of their bout. The knockout was so powerful that Feng had to be stretchered out of the octagon and taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The Road to UFC Champion

With this victory, Ming became the first “Road to UFC” strawweight tournament winner, earning a UFC contract and a $50,000 Performance of the Night award. Despite her success, Shi expressed mixed emotions, showing concern for her opponent’s well-being. “That’s my biggest weakness, I have too much mercy,” she said during an interview.

Balancing Medicine and MMA

Ming, also known as “Dr. Sleep,” has managed to balance her career as a full-time doctor with her passion for MMA. Her specialization in acupuncture has allowed her to help other athletes recover, and she hopes to continue doing so after retiring from fighting.

A Rising Star

At 30 years old, Ming has already significantly impacted both the medical field and the world of MMA. Her story is a testament to her dedication, resilience and ability to excel in multiple disciplines. As she continues her journey as a doctor and a fighter, Ming is sure to inspire many with her unique and remarkable path.
