2025 NWSL Season
Temwa Chawinga started the season on a high note, scoring in all three games played before this weekend’s international break. She has been named the NWSL Player of the Month for March. The Kansas City Current forward appears to be continuing her legacy from the 2024 season, and if she maintains this momentum, she could break her own record. In their away game against the Portland Thorns, she scored in the fourth minute, giving the KC Current an early lead. In the match against the Washington Spirit, she went all out to convert her last touch on the ball before the eight added minutes ended, securing a 2-0 victory for the KC Current.
In the third game against the Utah Royals, she opened the scoring for her team in a match that finished 3-0, scoring in the 20th minute to give the team a lead. This marked the third consecutive game in which she has scored in the 2025 NWSL season.
Recognition
Temwa’s legacy is continually growing, with the world watching her make history and defy the odds. She was recently featured on a billboard in Times Square, New York City. This celebrated her outstanding performance and the impact she is having not only on her team, but also on the entire NWSL league and her community back home in Malawi.
2024 Season
In the 2024 season, Temwa had an impressive start, scoring in four of the first five games. Throughout the season, she broke Sam Kerr’s record, which stood for 18 years, in a single NWSL season by netting 19 goals. From June to September, she had a phenomenal scoring streak of eight games, which currently holds the league record for consecutive goals in regular-season matches. She was named to the NWSL Team of the Month for both March and April. Additionally, she was awarded Player of the Month three times in the 2024 season, making her the only NWSL player to win the award three times in a single season. She clinched the 2024 NWSL Golden Boot and was voted the 2024 NWSL Most Valuable Player.
Kansas City Current
The Kansas City Current now holds second place, just behind the Orlando Pride. They will resume action on April 12 with an away game against the San Diego Wave.
