Unrivaled 1-on-1 Tournament Commences

To the surprise of most fans, Aaliyah Edwards upset Breanna Stewart in the last matchup of the day of the first round.

The long-awaited 1v1 Unrivaled tournament kicked off February 10, with 30 professional basketball players taking the challenge in round one.

Select Game Analysis Round One

Aaliyah Edwards upset Breanna Stewart in the last matchup of the day, to the surprise of most fans. Edwards, the 2024 first-round sixth overall pick, was matched up against the experienced 2016 first-round first pick, Breanna Stewart. The 6’3 forward had a field goal percentage 71.4, scoring 2 – 3 from the 3-point line. Breanna, a 6’4 forward, had a 0%  field goal day, failing to secure any points beyond the arch and in the paint. 

Dearica Hamby, the third-leading scorer in the Unrivaled League, averages 21.2 points per game. In the fifth matchup of the day, Skylar Diggins-Smith upset Hamby. Hamby, 6’3, scored only one field goal out of six attempts, while Diggins-Smith, 5’9, had a 50% field goal percentage. 

Napheesa Collier has maintained her winning streak even away from the team and continues to soar in any matchup she is faced with. The Lunar Owls player scored 12 points with a 41.7%. She currently leads the leaderboard with an average of 29.3 points per game in the tournament.

Seven players from the Tuesday night games advanced to the next level: Allisha Gray, Burrell, Stevens, Collier, Williams, Ogunbowale and Sabally. Edwards earned a Bye in the second round and advanced to the third round.

Select Game Round Three

Arike, who plays for Vinyl, had a great game against Sabally of the Phantom. The 6’4 Sabally was held to an 8-0 run in the first minutes by the 5’8 guard. Satou, who had a significant height advantage, could not secure a place in the semifinals.
