On March 11, it was announced that NBA superstar, four-time champion and Olympian Steph Curry is the latest to invest in the 3-on-3 basketball league. Another win for Unrivaled is that Curry joined the league and continues investing and advocating for women’s basketball. After Kobe Bryant’s passing, the basketball world lost an advocate and local fanatic of women’s basketball. The basketball community did not know who would step up to the plate to replace Bryant’s dedication and commitment to women’s basketball; however, Curry has stepped up and then some.
This is Curry’s statement on joining Unrivaled:
“I am incredibly proud to be joining the Unrivaled family as the league continues to set a new standard for how women’s professional sports should operate,” Curry said in a statement sent to the league. “Unrivaled is not just innovating the way we play basketball, but also how we value and invest in the athletes who drive the game forward.”
Steph Curry’s Under Armour Brand
Curry has maintained his loyalty to women’s basketball and last year, he signed South Carolina’s women’s basketball guard, MiLaysia Fulwiley, under his Under Armour Curry Brand. Fulwiley has since released a custom Curry shoe, a player’s edition of Curry 12s called the FamLay. Fulwiley Players edition represents her family and roots in South Carolina.
Curry has mentored a few collegiate athletes, the most noticeable of whom is Cameron Brink of the Los Angeles Sparks. Let’s not forget last year’s NBA All-Star 3-point contest event that featured now-one-time WNBA champion Sabrina Ionescu. It is an unforgettable event that basketball fans will discuss for years. It was competitive, entertaining, and the highlight of last year’s NBA All-Star.
Unrivaled playoffs commence Sunday, March 16, at 7:30 pm ET and 8:30 pm ET. The championship game is on Monday, March 17, at 7:30 pm ET.
