Unrivaled Basketball Officially Started

Unrivaled Basketball officially started on January 17 in a vibrant space at the Wayfair Arena in Miami. The next games are on 1/24: Phantom vs. Mist at 7:15 p.m. ET, followed by Laces vs. Vinyl at 8:15 p.m. ET on TNT.

The most anticipated day by women’s basketball fans finally came to pass with an electrifying display between the Lunar Owls and the Mist in the new women’s basketball professional league, Unrivaled Basketball

The Event

Unrivaled Basketball officially started on January 17 in a vibrant space at the Wayfair Arena in Miami. The evening began with a Fan Fest, where fans engaged in fun activities such as games, photo opportunities and exclusive merch. 

The First Game

The games aired on TNT, TruTv and Max for the USA audience and TSN+ for the Canadian audience, with international viewers having the game on YouTube. The tip-off was exactly at 7:00 pm ET at the Wayfair Arena in Miami. The Lunar Owls had Napheesa Collier, Allisha Gray and Skylar Diggins-Smith as the starting three against the Mist, who had Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd and Courtney Vandersloot as the starters.

Mist vs. Lunar Owls

Stewart made history as she made the first basket at the game with a mid-range jumper contested by Allisha Gray. The Mist finished the first quarter with a one-point lead, 20-19, and maintained a two-point lead at halftime with 46-44. With just three minutes to the end of the third quarter, the Lunar Owls were still held at two points less, 56-54. Rickea Jackson came off the bench for the Mist, giving the team a boost, scoring three 3’s in a row. The third quarter ended with the Mist still in the lead 73-63.

Owls Comeback

The winning score was set at 84, following the league’s rules. The Owls surprised the Mist with a comeback in the fourth quarter. It was a basket-for-basket affair until Diggins-Smith took the winning game shot to end the game at 84-80. She finished the game with 11 points and three rebounds. Her teammate, Collier, recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The Owls became the first to record a win in the Unrivaled League.
