Kelsey Plum Makes UW History
Basketball icon and Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum will have her No. 10 jersey retired by the University of Washington on January 18, 2025. The school made the historic announcement on Friday, marking Plum as the first-ever women’s basketball player to receive this honor from UW. Plum, who shattered records with 3,527 career points, reflected on the impact of her college years, expressing deep pride in her Husky roots. The celebration of her incredible legacy will kick off with a tribute during their homecoming weekend and home football game against USC.
A Husky Legend’s Reflection
Plum shared her heartfelt reaction to the announcement, emphasizing the impact of her time as a Husky. “I’m forever proud to be a Husky and UW is a special place that fundamentally shaped me both as a basketball player and as a person,” she said. “It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends, and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up at the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I’ve admired for so long.”
Kicking off the “Forever 10” Campaign
The retirement festivities will begin with the launch of the “Forever 10” campaign, celebrating Plum’s extraordinary impact. The first event will take place during UW’s homecoming game against USC, where Plum will be recognized between the first and second quarters.

Pat Chun, UW athletic director, praised Plum’s accomplishments and influence. “Kelsey is one of the great basketball players of all time, and she’s a UW legend,” he said. Highlighting her Olympic gold and WNBA championship, Chun added, “Kelsey has inspired fans worldwide and countless young basketball players and student-athletes. We look forward to January and raising that banner with her name on it to the rafters where it belongs.”
