The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced the coaches who will be part of its elevated program for assistant coaches who seek to become collegiate coaches. The program holds a three-day intensive training course that provides the selected participants with a space for continuous learning. The coaches are involved in a virtual learning space before and after the convention.
The coaches selected are obtained through a rigorous process, which involves their head coaches nominating them to the WBCA, and the coaches must be members of the WBCA. They must also have five years of coaching experience prior to being nominated.
Previous Cohorts
The 2025 Next Generation Institute Program convention will take place in Tampa, Florida, between April 3rd and 6th. This is the third cohort under this program with the previous cohorts successfully held. The inaugural class convention was held in 2023 in Dallas and the 2024 convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
Role of the Program
The program focuses on equipping the selected coaches with a CEO mentality, which is the leadership attributes a college coach needs to succeed while guiding college athletes on and off the court. The key focus areas are management skills, communication, marketing and leadership.

What is WBCA?
The WBCA is an association of coaches of women’s basketball teams at all levels: DI, DII and DIII. Its mission is to promote women’s basketball through the unification of coaches and foster the growth of the game for women and girls. Although the association is mainly coach-focused, it recognizes women college athletes’ success in academic settings and on the court. It has been honored with a spot on the WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll.
