Many sports fans can experience joy or sadness when news of a trade hits the media. In this case, the Las Vegas Aces are acquiring Seattle Storm guard Jewell Loyd, a six-time All-Star, and sending Aces guard Kelsey Plum, a three-time All-Star, to the Los Angeles Sparks. Sources told ESPN there is reason to believe this trade could tip the balance of power back in L.A.’s favor.
For Aces fans, this trade can be a harsh reality, but Plum is seen as having the ability to give the Sparks some life. She led the Washington Huskies to the Final Four in college and set the NCAA women’s all-time scoring record (later broken by Caitlin Clark). In her WNBA career, Plum averaged 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game and is considered one of the best guards in the league.
Plum’s reaction to her trade to LA seemed bittersweet. “It was a blessing and so very special to be a part of a team that was committed to raising the bar for both the WNBA and women’s sports in general,” Plum continued. “Now this chapter closes and our time together comes to an end, but I’ll never forget my time in Vegas, nor the profound impact it’s had on my life.”
Throughout her career, Plum has reached various levels of success and personal milestones as an athlete. Given her achievements, her presence will give the Sparks what they need to challenge other teams in the league.
