Lunar Owls Continue Dominance

The Lunar Owls remain the only team undefeated in the Unrivaled League. The team is currently on its sixth winning streak. The Lunar Owls played against the Laces in a highly fan-anticipated match-up. Napheesa Collier, currently the table leader in points overall in the league, scored the first basket to give the Lunar Owls an early lead. However, this was not maintained long enough with the Laces finishing the first quarter in the lead (20-17). The Laces maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. It was an affair of basketball for basketball as both teams kept a close range with the Laces having the biggest lead of 12 points at the start of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, Skylar Diggins-Smith made a free throw shot to tie the game (71 -71).

The Lunar Owls enjoyed a lead of two points, but soon the game was tied 73-73. The game-winning points were 75 since the third quarter ended 64-62. According to the Unrivaled League, the winning team is determined by the first team to make it to the mark where 11 points have been added to the third quarter’s highest score. Diggins-Smith sealed the win for the Lunar Owls to hand the Laces their first loss of the season. Collier scored 26 points for the Lunar Owls.

Laces Received Their First and Second Loss

The Laces went on a losing streak for the third weekend of the games after a back-to-back winning streak in the previous two-weekend games. The Laces lost to the Lunar Owls in their Friday matchup despite Kayla McBride showing out with 26 points and eight rebounds. The team proceeded to lose to the fifth-placed Rose BC in their Saturday matchup. The Rose combined efforts with three of its players scoring 20 points; Chelsea Gray 28 points, Kahleah Copper 21 points and Azurá Stevens 23 points. Angel Reese did not contribute much to the scoreboard but led the team in rebounds (10), which were crucial for a much-needed win for the Rose BC. The Laces had shared points across the board but their efforts were not enough to stop the win-thirsty Rose BC.

Vinyl Continued Struggle

The Vinyl BC is placed sixth on the table after its fourth losing streak. The team won its opening game against the Roses on the League’s inaugural day and against the Phantom on the first Monday game day. Since then, it has registered loss after loss with the latest from week three games; vs. Mist (77-67) and vs. Lunar Owls (85-68). Dearica Hamby balled out in the game against the Mist to record the highest score 35 points and 15 rebounds but unfortunately, the rest of the squad contributed sparingly to the score sheet and fell short to the Mist. The Mist had a shared scoreboard day with every teammate contributing a double digit to the board. The team’s 50% 3-point percentage hurt the Vinyl who had only 25% beyond the arch.

In the game against the Lunar Owls, Vinyl was outnumbered across the statistics with the former leading in rebounds, assists, steals and minimizing their turnovers to six.
