Nikki Blue, a standout point guard during her playing days and a respected figure on the sidelines, brings years of professional experience and a strong local presence to the Trojans program. Her hiring is seen as a strategic addition to a USC staff looking to capitalize on its recent momentum in NCAA women’s basketball.

“I’m beyond grateful for my time with the Sparks,” Blue said in a statement. “Coaching at the professional level has been an incredible journey, but returning to the college game—especially with a program like USC—is a special opportunity. I’m excited to help develop the next generation of talent and contribute to the continued growth of this team.”

Sparks Tenure

Blue joined the Sparks coaching staff in January 2025 and played a key role in player development and game preparation. Her ability to connect with players and her high basketball IQ made her a valuable asset on and off the court.

Prior to her time with the Sparks, she spent two seasons (2022–2024) as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Mercury, where she helped guide player development and contributed to game strategy. She also held coaching positions at Arizona State, UNLV, and Grand Canyon University.

A Southern California native, Blue’s transition to USC feels like a homecoming. She starred at UCLA from 2002 to 2006, finishing her collegiate career among the Bruins’ all-time leaders in assists and steals, before being drafted in the first round of the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics.

USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb praised Blue’s addition to the coaching staff, noting her “passion, leadership, and elite basketball knowledge” as qualities that will elevate the program.

“Nikki brings an invaluable blend of experience as both a player and coach,” said Gottlieb. “She’s someone who understands the Pac-12 landscape and the kind of culture we’re building here at USC. I’m thrilled to welcome her to the Trojan family.”

2025 WNBA Season

As the WNBA prepares for the upcoming season without Blue on the Sparks’ bench, fans and players alike have expressed appreciation for her contributions and excitement for her next chapter.

USC women’s basketball, already drawing national attention for its strong recruiting classes and competitive play, adds another key piece to its coaching puzzle—with Nikki Blue now part of the vision.
