Te-Hina Paopao, the former Gamecock, has brought infectious energy that motivates the team. Paopao’s debut has been nothing short of impressive; she is unafraid of the bright lights and ready to compete against the league’s top stars. She averages 24 minutes per game in her first three games, a significant challenge for a rookie. However, she is excelling in her debut season so far, averaging 2.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds, shooting perfectly from the free-throw line, 41.2% from the field, and 40% from three—very impressive numbers for a first-year player. Of course, she has much to learn; however, in just three games, she is demonstrating that she belongs in the league and could have a long career in the WNBA.

Paopao was part of the starting lineup on Thursday, May 22, in the game against the Indiana Fever, which attracted 17,044 fans at State Farm Arena. She adds energy to the lineup and cheers for her teammates whenever a 3-pointer is made. As a young, spirited player, she creates a lively atmosphere for the team. She finished the game with 11 points, three assists, and two rebounds, shooting 33.3% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.

She played 29 minutes against the Fever. Te-Hina is improving and getting a feel for the league with each game. She is starting because Jordin Canada is injured. It is unfortunate for Canada, but it is a blessing for Paopao to gain WNBA experience earlier than she expected. Although the Atlanta Dream didn’t finish the game as they had hoped, losing to the Fever 81-76, Te-Hina had a solid game for the Dream.
