After two decades of breaking records and making strides on the green, the 39-year-old pro-golfer has announced her retirement from the LPGA tour.
Her journey began in 2004, when she entered the professional scene and immediately set a record with an average driving distance of 270.3 yards. It has been an incredible run for the golfer.
Professional Life
At just 19, Brittany secured her spot on the 2005 LPGA tour by finishing 20th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament held at the LPGA International, Jones and Hills Courses. This was a pivotal moment for the young golfer as she made her debut on the 2005 LPGA tour. In 2006, Brittany achieved her first professional victory at the HSBC Women’s Golf Championship, marking her first LPGA tour win. Competing against top golfers like LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer Juli Inkster in the finals, Brittany’s talent shone through.
Brittany’s rise continued, and in 2007, she was selected for the highly competitive U.S. Solheim team, which bases selection on the top seven ranked golfers from LPGA tour points and the top two ranked players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. In 2009, she earned another spot on the Solheim team by winning the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
2015 marked a significant comeback for Brittany as she won the ANA Inspiration, boosting her position in the race towards the CME Globe and the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. She earned 650 points, propelling her from 20th to 4th in the CME Globe race and from 18th to 6th in the Rolex rankings.
Throughout her career, Brittany’s professional wins include the 2006 HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship, 2007 Ginn Open, 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship, 2011 ShopRite LPGA Classic, 2011 Canadian Women’s Open, 2015 ANA Inspiration, and 2017 Bahamas LPGA Classic. Her last event as an LPGA Tour pro golfer will be The ANNIKA driven by Gain Bridge at Pelican LPGA.
Amateur Career
Before turning professional, Brittany enjoyed significant success in amateur golf tournaments. Her notable victories include the American Junior Golf Association Chateau in 2001 and 2003, the Avilla Junior Classic in 2003, and the Harder Hall Invitational in 2004.
Retirement and Beyond
When Brittany turned professional in 2004, her plan was to retire after ten years. However, twenty years later, she remains actively engaged at the professional level. Now, she aims to spend less time on the green and more with her family. Brittany will continue to be involved in golf at a minimal level, serving as an inspiration to young girls and women aspiring to make it in the sport.
