Renée Slegers signed a 2025/26 season contract to lead Arsenal in the Women’s Super League. This follows her tenure as an interim coach in the 2023/24 season after Jonas Eidevall’s resignation in October. As the interim coach, she registered 10 wins and one draw.

The 35-year-old Dutch is no stranger to the sidelines and the Arsenal club. She joined Arsenal in the summer of 2023 as an assistant coach to Eidevall, focusing on player development. During her active playing time, she trained with the Arsenal academy in 2006 and 2007. Her commitment to the club earned her the role of interim coach, which she took on religiously. Despite taking up the role in the earlier days of the season-opening, she maintained a record performance for the club.

She was awarded the Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month in December. By the time of breaking off for the winter break on December 16, Arsenal was in third position below Chelsea and Man City.

Professional Career Days

Renée played for her home country, the Netherlands, at different international games between 2009 and 2016. She played as a midfielder and displayed a strong skill set in addition to her versatility and athleticism. She played in the Dutch Women’s Football League for clubs Willem ll, Djurgårdens IF and Linköpings FC. Her career was cut short by the injuries she suffered back to back before she settled for the managerial role. She suffered a knee injury in 2016 and she has been nursing a pelvic injury in the previous year. She retired from professional playing in February 2018.

Managerial Career

After her retirement, she joined IF Limhamn Bunkeflo in Sweden in 2018, where her coaching career started. Thereafter, she joined FC Rosengård in 2022 as the head coach, succeeding Eidevall, who had been selected to head Arsenal. On September 6, 2023, she was announced as Eidevall’s assistant coach at Arsenal.
