North Carolina Courage secured its first win of the season by ending Kansas City Current’s unbeaten run. The team, which had two draws and three losses and was positioned near the bottom of the table, surprised the side that was 5 for 5 in wins and at the top of the table, with a 3-0 victory.
North Carolina Courage 3 – 2 KC Current
By the 90th minute, the KC Current was preparing to celebrate its sixth winning streak this season, but they were caught off guard by two late goals scored in the dying minutes of the game. The North Carolina Courage, who enjoyed a home advantage, outplayed the KC Current for much of the match but only managed to convert an equalizer and a winning goal in the final moments.
Temwa Chawinga passed the ball to Haley Hopkins, who hit the right post and sent it into the net to secure the first goal for the KC Current in the 39th minute before the end of the first half. It was her first goal for KC City. As the second half began, the North Carolina Courage quickly equalized in the 52nd minute when Ryan Williams scored after breaking free from the defense. It was not long before the KC Current scored again, with Bia Zaneratto finding the net in the 57th minute. In the 90th minute, Kaleigh Kurtz stunned the KC Current with a goal from a corner kick play to equalize. Only three minutes were added, and that was enough time for Williams to pass to Ashley Sanchez for the game-winning goal.
In their last meeting, KC Current registered three wins, while the North Carolina Courage had two wins. It looked like a clear-cut win for the Current, but unfortunately, the Courage was thirsty for a win.

The 2025 NWSL Golden Boot winner race is tightening, and the NWSL is witnessing the emergence of new contenders. Esther Gonzàlez of Gotham FC currently leads the table with seven goals in seven games played.
