Next Stop – New York State Class AA Semifinals

The Brighton girls’ volleyball team has made history this season, capturing their first-ever Section V Championship and earning a spot in the New York State Class AA semifinals.

This remarkable achievement has put the team in the spotlight and brought immense pride to the Brighton community.

A Season of Triumphs

The Bruins’ journey to the championship was nothing short of spectacular. They finished the regular season with an impressive 15-2 record and entered the sectional tournament as the second seed. Brighton’s path to the finals saw them defeat Greece Olympia/Odyssey, Webster Thomas and Hilton, losing only one set along the way.

The Bruins faced top-seeded Penfield in a thrilling five-set match in the finals. After splitting the first two sets, Brighton went on a 12-0 run in the third set, giving them the edge. Although Penfield rallied to take the fourth set, the Bruins clinched the victory with a 15-13 win in the decisive fifth set.

Standout Performances

Several players stood out during the tournament, earning spots on the All-Tournament Team. Charlotte Goldfeder, Vivian Marcus and Lucrezia Pavan were recognized for their excellent performance, and Pavan was named the tournament MVP. “Honestly, I couldn’t have done it without the rest of the team. This MVP is for our entire team, we all earned it, all together,” Pavan said.

Senior Vivian Marcus, who totaled 25 assists in the finals, praised her team for their hard work and resilience throughout the season. “I am so proud of this team for all of the effort we put in through the offseason, while we’re on, nonstop we never gave up,” Marcus said.

Looking Ahead

With their first sectional title under their belt, the Bruins are now focused on making history at the New York State Tournament. The team is set to compete in the Class AA state semifinals, and their confidence is at an all-time high. “It feels incredible. I feel like our program hasn’t gotten enough love yet. It’s really exciting to see us go this far,” said senior Vivian Marcus.

Head coach Andrew Guthrie expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments and their dedication to the sport. “It means the absolute world to me and these girls. We worked all season long, incredible hours, incredible intensity, and we did it. We did it,” Guthrie said.

A Bright Future

The Brighton girls’ volleyball team has shown that hard work, determination and teamwork can lead to extraordinary success. As they prepare for the state tournament, the Bruins are ready to continue their historic season and bring even more glory to their school and community.

Congratulations to the Brighton girls’ volleyball team on their incredible achievements and best of luck in the state tournament!
