During the Minnesota Lynx’s 111–58 blowout win over the Las Vegas Aces on August 2, 2025, Napheesa Collier rolled her right ankle late in the third quarter while attempting a rebound. Her foot tangled with teammate Alanna Smith. She was helped off the court, but was able to walk on her own afterward. She had scored 18 points and had five assists by the time of the injury.

MRI Scans

An MRI confirmed a right ankle sprain, with no significant structural damage detected. The team also announced she would be re-evaluated “in the coming weeks” and is expected to miss at least two weeks, likely sidelining her through August.

If she sits out two weeks, she may miss at least four upcoming games, including the three-game rematch against the defending champions, the New York Liberty.

Season and Team Context

Collier is currently the WNBA’s leading scorer this season, averaging 23.5 points, along with 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks over 26 games. She is a frontrunner for the 2025 WNBA MVP.

Her absence comes at a critical time as Minnesota sits at the top of the table with a 25–5 record, and only five weeks are left in the regular season.

Journey to Recover

Collier remains in good spirits, according to her teammate, Kayla McBride. It’s a relief that it’s not a serious structural injury, which could have led to surgery or a longer sidelining.

On a positive note, the Minnesota Lynx have positioned themselves ahead of other teams, giving Collier space to recover.
