On Thursday, the Indianapolis International Airport revealed an All-Star Game court replica in Civic Plaza. Basketball Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings, a key player in the Indiana Fever’s 2012 WNBA championship, was there to celebrate. The court aims to capture Indiana’s passion for basketball. Fun events are planned to celebrate the court’s unveiling at the airport.
Tamika Catchings Legacy
Tamika Catchings is a highly decorated retired professional basketball player, widely regarded as one of the greatest female players of all time. She played her entire 15-year WNBA career with the Indiana Fever, winning a championship in 2012, an MVP award in 2011, and five Defensive Player of the Year awards. Catchings also holds four Olympic gold medals, an NCAA championship, and many other honors. Beyond basketball, she’s a dedicated philanthropist, community leader, and motivational speaker.
“Fans will step off the plane and onto the court, ready to experience basketball in Indiana — where no one celebrates the game like Hoosiers,” Catchings said in a news release. “As they say, in 49 other states it’s just basketball, but THIS is Indiana!”
Transforming the Airport
Miles Printing handled the court’s printing and installation, dedicating 92 hours to the appliqué. It’ll be at the airport until July 21.
IAA Executive Director Mario Rodriguez said they’re turning the Indy airport into a “gateway to basketball legacy,” with the court, community events, and WNBA All-Star graphics.
The airport will also host events for the 2025 WNBA All-Star celebration, like a social media contest and Zumba. This interactive airport experience will change the dynamic for travelers until July 21st.
